Sasha provides a relationship-based therapeutic process in which children, teens, and adults can develop their strengths and apply new strategies to manage the circumstances that bring them frustration, conflict, pain, and impede their sense of accomplishment and progress in daily life.   Sasha works from a psychodynamic framework and also maintains that our thoughts generate most of our negative emotional experiences, and that cognitive-behavioral strategies are useful in changing the quality of our experience.   A mindfulness approach to healthy emotional balance is also an aspect of his perspective.

Helping parents understand the experience of their child is essential, and empowers them to nurture and promote their child's health with confidence in their role and expectations of their child.  Collaboration with other treatment and educational professionals (Psychiatrists, Pediatricians, school social workers, guidance counselors, academic deans, special education staff, academic consultants, tutors)  is essential when working with children, and this is routine in my practice.

Families, Couples, and Adults

Individual Psychotherapy   is generally sought out by people looking to develop their internal and external resources to manage the stress in their lives, and to overcome difficult life experiences that impede their present sense of wellbeing.   The goals of therapy are driven by the expectations of the client and can focus on developing strategies to overcome destructive behavior patterns or choices, to heal from painful life experiences such as grief and loss, divorce, dysfunctional family of origin dynamics, or to navigate difficult developmental hurdles across the lifespan.

Family Therapy is a process to engage family members in healthier interactions and communication when tensions and conflict become frequent and de-stabilize the family system.  Helping family members get to the heart of the real issues that keep them from being close is the goal of working as a family.  Working as a partnership, and facilitating open communication without bias allows parents, children, and siblings to feel heard, attended to, and understood which promotes growth and change.  Conflict and disagreements are a natural part of life, and learning how to "FIGHT FAIR" is a major part of living well.

Couples Therapy  is focused on exploring the patterns of communication within a relationship and unfolding the resentments, dissatisfactions, and hurts that do not get resolved by the couple over time.  Because the existing communication patterns tend to re-injure or distract from the real issues at the heart of the matter, years of pain, hurt feelings, and anger go unattended and can create intractable patterns that promote distance and conflict.
